Learn from Portland Symphony Orchestra violinist, Yasmin Vitalius about Antonin Dvorak and Jean Sibelius. Dvorak ran the first music conservatory in the United States in the late 1800s and composed his wonderful Symphony #9, "From the New World" which we will examine closer. Sibelius's shimmering violin concerto is also a masterpiece to uncover. Using recordings and other means of demonstration, find out how each composer reflected the environments in which they were composing in their music. Joined by Maestra Kim Diehnelt, participants will also get a conductor and composer's take on the symphonic process. No prior knowledge required.
