Holocaust and Human Rights Center Join us as we travel to Augusta, Maine for the program: 'Decision Making in Times of Injustice' and a tour of the Holocaust and Human Rights Center on Holocaust Remembrance Day, April 24th.This program gives participants an awareness of the enormity of the crimes committed during the Nazi Holocaust. The program demonstrates the process by which the Nazis arrived at and were able to carry out the extermination of European Jewry. Decision Making in Times of Injustice demonstrates that the Holocaust was not a foregone conclusion when the Nazis first came to power and that it needed the participation of thousands of ordinary people and the silence of millions of others to happen. The workshop will look at the decisions made by leaders, bureaucrats, and ordinary citizens at various times in the 1930s and 1940s: decisions that, when taken together, led directly and inexorably to the Holocaust. This workshop reminds participants of the importance of living in a democracy whose citizens are both willing to and capable of making informed judgements, not only on behalf of themselves, but on behalf of a larger community. On our way back to Yarmouth, we will stop for lunch (on your own) at a local eatery.

Orienteering and Lunch at Pineland Farm Do you like treasure hunting? Orienteering is fun and challenging. With roots in Scandinavia, orienteering involves using a map and a compass to locate a series of checkpoints called controls. The challenge comes in determining the most efficient route around the course by interpreting land features indicated on the map. It's like a treasure hunt. Pineland Farms has the largest orienteering course in Maine, Participants will get a lesson first and will then apply their new skills to find the check points on the beginner course at Pineland Farms. Lots of walking involved. After, we will enjoy lunch at the Pineland Farms Cafe. We require that renters volunteer 6 hours per plot in our Community Garden where we grow vegetables for donation to the Yarmouth Community Food Pantry and Yarmouth Senior communities.
Our gardens are gorgeous -- come tour or rest in the shade. Volunteers are welcome and staff will provide guidance. We harvest every Tuesday and Saturday morning in the growing season. Look for us on East Main St. between Estabrook's Nursery and the Yarmouth Transfer Station at the Frank Knight Forest. We are a community of gardeners.Questions about the waitlist?
