Biddeford Mills Museum and Lunch at Portland Pie Company
Join us for a 2-hour guided tour of the the Biddeford Mills Museum.
Poised on the banks of the Saco River, the extensive Biddeford mill district once hummed with activity, weaving together the lives and livelihoods of numerous individuals. The fabric of the community was based on pride in craftsmanship and strong work ethic. The Biddeford Mills Museum explores the rich heritage of the textile mills and the people who established and sustained this region.
Our tour will highlight various stages in the textile manufacturing process and feature a visit to an underground ‘lagoon’ where the Saco River flowed through tunnels to power the mills. (This Historical Tour is designed for those able to climb minimal stairs and walk approximately 1 mile. Walking shoes should be worn. For safety reasons no open toed shoes are allowed.) We will stop for lunch at the Portland Pie Company (on your own) before we head back.
